thriving in chaos…

By

Show of hands, who THRIVES in chaos? ME! I thrive in chaos. I crave it. Probably why I thought it would be easier to have my children close together in age rather than apart. I know I am not the only one like this, and I know, I know. “If you crave chaos, you grew up in a chaotic environment, blah blah blah.” Yeah, I’ve heard it all. I’m not here for that. I am here because I want to hear from you guys.

I know I am not the only mom out there with multiple kids clinging to her legs as she walks outside to feed all of her animals on her hobby farm. All while supper is cooking in the kitchen, I’ve got my laptop open at the breakfast bar left in mid-sentence, my sister on speakerphone, and I am ordering groceries from Walmart (thank goodness for grocery delivery!).

Again, I know this is probably another thing I should discuss with my therapist, but I want to know if you guys feel the same as I do. I don’t want to get rid of the chaos. Everything is getting done. Maybe not to the best of my abilities, but done well enough. Everyone is happy, healthy, fed, and thriving. Admittedly, my things get pushed to the back burner, which I think is pretty normal. But it’s all getting done. This is the season of life I’m in. Raising kids, living in chaos, just trying to make it from one practice to the next, and I honestly, I love it. I know it’s not sustainable and there will come a time in my life where I have to slow down, but until then, it’s pedal to the metal, baby.

Sure, I have my days where I rot on the couch for a couple of hours while I complain to my husband about how much I have to get done. I have a great husband who is an equal partner and does whatever he can to lighten my load. Probably why it’s worked for so long, hahaha. Still, I know I will look back and miss these chaotic days. Running from one cleanup to the next, snack-making, milk pouring, rushing to the laundry, and back to the laptop if there is time.

So what are we doing to organize our schedules? I know if you are a mom with social media, you have probably seen the hype about the Skylite calendar? Or maybe you have seen others suggesting the Alexa one over that. I tried keeping up with stuff in my phone’s calendar and it didn’t help. I was terrible. So I feel like spending a bunch of money on something like the “family calendar” isn’t going to work for me. But maybe spending that much money on it might motivate me to keep up with it!

I have a daily schedule that I loosely abide by. With my kids’ ages currently, it’s practically impossible to abide by it strictly because you never know who is going to wake up and need mom to hold them for three hours straight, and I’m not about to turn down that opportunity. It’s the reason I gave up my career and am doing all of this. I want to be present, and thank goodness I have this opportunity. In this phase of life, my schedule hits the back burner, which you can imagine the fight of internal frustration when I am mid “writing block” and I have to stop to clean something up, or rock someone, or cook something. But that’s the season, right? It’s not forever, and I know I will miss this. I know I will. So I soak myself in the moments and let it be.

Enough rambling, y’all let me know what your secret to organization is. I mean, I want to know I have a doctor appointment coming up BEFORE they call me to confirm it because that’s really becoming an issue, hahahaha. So let’s hear your tips, tricks, and secrets, please!

Until next time, ladies & gents~
